PHOTOSOPHY

A world in black and white

My very first photo was a color one. Color photos are the closest to how we see the world and experience it as real. It wasn't until I started shooting in black and white that I discovered I could leave that true-to-life representation.

Reflection

Immanuel Kant argued that we can never know reality in itself. Das Ding an sich ist ein Unbekanntes, Kritik der reinen Vernunft (1781).
By omitting color, the image becomes more abstract, a possibility how we may experience reality. This creates space for something that you had not noticed before, and what would otherwise have remained hidden can come to light.
